Tooele City prepares for Smith's Marketplace and new library catalog launch

Exciting developments are on the horizon for Tooele City, as the construction of a new Smith's Marketplace is officially underway. During the recent Tooele City Library Board meeting, officials announced that the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year. This new marketplace will not only feature a large grocery store but also plans for additional businesses, including Island Smoothie, Beans and Brew, Einstein Bagels, and Jersey Mike's.

The growth doesn’t stop there. The board highlighted ongoing developments at Tenth and Main, where a new Chipotle restaurant is set to open as part of the Founders Point project. These expansions are seen as vital for strengthening the community and enhancing local economic opportunities.

In addition to the commercial growth, the library is preparing for a significant upgrade to its catalog system. Starting Monday, the library will transition to the new Koha Aspen system, which promises to enhance the user experience with features like item holds, purchase suggestions, and personalized recommendations based on user ratings. Patrons will need to log in with their library card number and a new PIN, which will be the last four digits of their phone number on file.

Library officials anticipate some initial challenges during the transition but are optimistic that the new system will ultimately provide a more efficient and engaging browsing experience for users.
