In a recent Board of County Commissioners meeting held on January 28, 2025, significant discussions centered around a proposed amendment to the community redevelopment code that could reshape a local recreational vehicle park in Hobe Sound. The proposal, presented by Florida's Mobile Park LLC, seeks to change the zoning designation of the existing park from a general subdistrict to a corridor subdistrict, which would allow for the establishment of recreational vehicle parks as a permitted use.
The property in question, located at 10705 Southeast Federal Highway, spans approximately 7.98 acres and is currently classified under zoning regulations that do not permit RV parks. Senior planner John Sennott explained that the change is essential for the redevelopment of the site, which has been under the ownership of the Graham family since 2010. The owners aim to modernize the park, which has been described as outdated, and connect it to municipal sewer services, replacing the existing treatment system.

The corridor subdistrict designation aligns with the goals of enhancing pedestrian-oriented development along major roadways, which is a priority for the Hobe Sound Community Redevelopment Area (CRA).
Commissioners expressed their support for the project, recognizing its potential to revitalize the area and improve local infrastructure. The change is seen as a necessary step to facilitate the redevelopment of the park, which has historical significance in the community as the former Engel Inn.
As the board moves forward with the proposal, the community can anticipate a transformation of the site that not only preserves its recreational use but also enhances the overall aesthetic and functionality of the area. The next steps will involve further discussions and planning to ensure that the redevelopment aligns with the community's needs and growth objectives.
