Mayor Keith James highlights West Palm Beach's progress and challenges in state of the city address

In his sixth State of the City address, West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James highlighted the city's resilience and ongoing efforts to create a thriving community. "Our city stands tall, resilient, and thriving," he declared, emphasizing the potential of its residents and the importance of local government in today's political landscape.

A key focus of the address was the mayor's Jumpstart Academy, which equips entrepreneurs with essential tools to grow their businesses. Mayor James also underscored the urgent need for affordable and workforce housing, stating, "For too many families, the dream of stable housing feels out of reach." He acknowledged that waiting for external solutions to this pressing issue is not an option for the city.

Public safety was another critical topic, with the mayor reporting a 12% reduction in crime. However, he addressed setbacks within the police department, including allegations of financial improprieties among top command staff and a troubling incident involving officers in Boynton Beach. "Restoring trust demanded decisive action," he said, referencing his decision to replace the police chief as a necessary step.

The mayor also celebrated West Palm Beach being recognized by TripAdvisor as a top travel destination, highlighting the city's advancements in tourism. Looking ahead, he expressed optimism for the future, urging the community to continue working together to build on these successes.
