City advances 42 development projects including Harrison Plaza and Home 2 Suites

The Winchester City Council's Planning and Economic Development Committee meeting on January 30, 2025, provided an update on various development projects within the city. Sarah, a city representative, outlined the status of 42 projects currently in the pipeline, with 27 featuring residential components and 24 including non-residential elements.

One of the highlighted projects is the Ward Plaza, which received rezoning approval last year. The site plan for this project was submitted in October and is currently under review, with ongoing collaboration between engineers and the Public Works department. Minor modifications to the site plan are expected, particularly along Valley Avenue and Hughes Lane, to accommodate city improvements for transportation, biking, and landscaping.

Several projects are nearing completion or have recently finished. Phase 1 of Harrison Plaza was completed this year, while Phase 2 is under construction. The Learning Experience daycare, located near Chuck E. Cheese on Crossover Boulevard, is in its final inspection stages and is set to open this month. Additionally, the Piccadilly townhome project has been completed.

The Local, another significant development, faced delays but is anticipated to open this fall, adding nearly 200 housing units to the area. Other ongoing projects include the Creekside Condos, which are in the final phases of construction, and the Home 2 Suites hotel on Crossover Boulevard, which is also progressing well.

Overall, the meeting highlighted a robust development landscape in Winchester, with multiple projects advancing towards completion, contributing to the city's growth and infrastructure improvements.
