Vista unveils Santa Fe Senior Village Project to combat homelessness and support vulnerable youth

In a recent State of the City address, Mayor Franklin highlighted significant strides made in Vista, particularly in addressing homelessness and enhancing community resources. The completion of the Santa Fe Senior Village Project marks a pivotal development, providing 53 fully furnished apartments for seniors at risk of homelessness, including two units reserved for unhoused senior veterans. This initiative is part of the city’s broader commitment to support its most vulnerable residents.

Additionally, the city announced the acquisition of a former memory care facility, which will be transformed into a supportive housing program for transition-age youth experiencing homelessness. This facility aims to provide stable housing and essential case management services for young adults aged 18 to 24, many of whom are former foster children. The program will focus on helping these individuals achieve long-term self-sufficiency through education and job training.

The meeting also celebrated the opening of Trader Joe's in North County Square, which has generated approximately 75 new jobs and attracted significant community interest. Mayor Franklin emphasized the importance of this new retail option, which reduces the need for residents to travel to neighboring cities for shopping. The excitement surrounding Trader Joe's reflects a broader trend of economic growth in Vista, with other businesses like Deso and m2 ingredients also contributing to job creation.
