Town Council approves $750,000 for new accessible playground and park improvements

The Flower Mound Community Development Corporation meeting on January 30, 2025, focused on significant developments in local park construction and improvements. A key highlight was the allocation of $750,000 towards upcoming construction projects, following the approval of a design contract by the town council in November 2024.

The meeting detailed progress on a master plan that was approved last summer. A project kickoff meeting was held earlier in January with design consultants to refine the plan into actionable construction documents. Minor adjustments to trail alignments and other elements are anticipated, but the overall layout will remain consistent with the approved design. The design phase is expected to continue until late summer 2025, with construction bids anticipated by the end of the year.

The approved master plan includes the development of 12 pickleball courts, two tennis courts, a detention pond, a fully accessible playground—the first of its kind in Flower Mound—a parking area, and a basketball court.

Additionally, the meeting addressed two future projects funded for the current fiscal year. The Oak Bridge Crossing development, designated as a future park, will be put on hold until residents can provide feedback on the design. Meanwhile, improvements to Parker Square Park are planned, which will involve replacing outdated amenities such as benches and trash cans, as well as addressing masonry issues on retaining walls.

The Community Development Corporation plans to revisit these projects in the coming months, aiming to enhance the recreational offerings in Flower Mound while ensuring community input is prioritized.
