NAI student groups collect 5000 cans for North Hills Food Bank this holiday season

The North Allegheny School District Board made significant strides in community engagement and educational programming during its combined meeting on December 11, 2024. The board unanimously approved the minutes from previous meetings and highlighted various student-led initiatives aimed at supporting local families and enhancing educational experiences.

One of the standout achievements discussed was the successful completion of a canned food drive, where North Allegheny Intermediate High School (NAI) students surpassed their goal by collecting 5,000 cans for the North Hills Food Bank. This initiative reflects the district's commitment to community service, with students also participating in a "Season of Giving" event, gathering gifts for children in need. The Interact Club further contributed by creating cards for veterans and packing meals for Thanksgiving, showcasing a strong spirit of volunteerism among students.

In addition to community service, the board addressed educational matters, including the approval of dates for the upcoming Camp Conocoque program and adjustments to the honoraria for staff accompanying students. The honoraria will increase to $200 for teachers and $250 for nurses, aimed at encouraging participation in overnight camp activities. The board also approved changes to the 2025-2026 program of studies, which include combining certain creative writing and acting courses to boost enrollment.
