La Verne City Council approves $60K dispatcher contract amid staffing shortages

In a recent workshop held by the La Vergne Board of Mayor and Aldermen, key discussions centered around public safety staffing and community engagement initiatives, reflecting the city's ongoing commitment to addressing local needs.

One of the most pressing topics was the approval of a professional service agreement with Get Rescue 911 for police dispatch staffing services. The contract, valued at $60,000 for six months, aims to alleviate dispatcher shortages that have been affecting the police department. City officials noted that while they have begun hiring, the process is slow, and the addition of experienced contract dispatchers will help maintain service levels. The first contractor has already started, and the city is actively working to recruit more applicants.

Additionally, the board approved a change order for the Public Works and Community Development Services Facility, which will add approximately $14,169 to the project budget, though officials confirmed that the overall project remains within budget.

The meeting also highlighted a partnership with Hands on Nashville for volunteer management related to stormwater events, which has been ongoing for three years and will continue without fees for 2025.

In terms of governance, the board introduced two ordinances aimed at enhancing community participation. One ordinance proposes to combine the Greenway into the Beautification, Arts, and Advisory Committee, while another seeks to modernize the public comment process by allowing residents to sign up online to speak at meetings. This change is expected to streamline participation and make it more accessible for residents.
