The Marion City Schools Board of Education recently honored the memories of two beloved educators, Nora Lynn Van Riper and Donna Lee Foreman, who made significant contributions to the community through their teaching and care for students.
Nora Lynn Van Riper, who passed away at the age of 89 on November 23, was a dedicated educator with a long career in Marion City Schools. A 1953 graduate of Harding High School, she began her journey in education after attending Miami University, where she earned a cadet degree that allowed her to teach for four years. Van Riper taught elementary school in Middletown before moving to Marion, where she continued her passion for teaching. In December 1970, she obtained her full teaching degree and later earned a master’s degree, ultimately teaching for 37 years. Known for her artistic talent, she inspired many students at various schools, including Grant, Taft, Edison, Glenwood, and Pearl Street Elementary Schools. Her commitment to the arts was evident as she showcased her students' work in the Heart of Ohio art exhibit and facilitated student displays in the Governor's Tower in Columbus.
Donna Lee Foreman, who passed away at 92, was also recognized for her impactful role in the community. A graduate of Marion Technical College, she became a registered nurse and later earned her bachelor's degree from St. Joseph College. Foreman dedicated over 20 years to Marion City Schools as a school nurse, where her caring nature and commitment to children's well-being left a lasting impression. Beyond her professional life, she enjoyed creative pursuits and gardening. Foreman is remembered by her family, including her son David Hypes and daughter Becky Scott, as well as the many students and families she touched throughout her career.
The tributes to Van Riper and Foreman reflect the deep appreciation the Marion community holds for those who dedicate their lives to education and nurturing the next generation. Their legacies continue to inspire current and future educators in Marion City Schools.
