City Council approves $62K for compliant Scott Airpacks amid safety concerns

This purchase was prompted by the recent non-compliance of existing airpacks with updated safety standards set to take effect on January 1, 2025. The urgency of this purchase was underscored by the need to ensure that public safety personnel are equipped with compliant and reliable equipment. The department had previously identified five non-compliant units, and the approval allows for immediate action to rectify this issue.

The council's decision to move forward with the airpack purchase was made after reviewing multiple quotes, with the selected bid being significantly lower than others. Additionally, the department has applied for a MIOSHA grant that could offset some of the costs, potentially covering nearly one full airpack if approved.
