Harnett County Commissioners approve water fee changes and landfill expansion contract

The Harnett County Board of Commissioners made significant strides during their February 3, 2025 meeting, approving key action items that will impact local health services and infrastructure. Among the highlights, the board established an $80 fee for the QuantiFERON tuberculosis blood test, a crucial step in enhancing public health measures in the county.

In a move to bolster waste management, commissioners awarded a $317,000 construction contract for the Dun Erwin Landfill Expansion to Lockerbie's Grading Inc. This expansion is expected to improve waste disposal services for residents. Additionally, the board approved plans to lower system and development fees, as well as water tap fees, following discussions from their January 28 work session.

The meeting also featured a public comment period where 18 citizens voiced their opinions, reflecting community engagement on local issues. However, a proposed joint resolution with the Harnett County Board of Education to remove school buildings as voting locations was tabled for further discussion, indicating ongoing deliberations on electoral logistics.
