Los Alamos Libraries host successful Noon Year's Eve and announce February programming lineup

Los Alamos County libraries are set to enhance community engagement with a series of exciting programs and services announced during the Library Board Meeting on February 3, 2025. A highlight from January was the successful "Noon Year's Eve" celebration, which attracted 75 attendees at the White Rock library and around 200 at the Mesa library, featuring games, crafts, and a festive balloon drop at noon.

Looking ahead, the libraries will host a variety of events throughout February, including a tabletop game day and a closing reception for the current art show on February 8. Additionally, a new knitting group will meet on Thursday evenings in White Rock, and an online talk on the history of the San Fe Indian School is scheduled for February 13.

In a significant move to improve accessibility, the libraries will restart evening hours for social services, allowing case coordinators from the county's social services department to meet with community members after hours. This initiative aims to assist those who may struggle to access services during regular daytime hours.

The board also reported a minor update to their diversity and inclusion policies, changing the wording from "equity" to "equal." This adjustment reflects the board's commitment to inclusivity and was communicated through a press release that garnered media attention.
