La Habra community honors Rosita Retana's legacy while advocating for traffic safety improvements

Paco Retana, a Whittier resident, took the opportunity to honor his late mother, Rosita Retana, who passed away shortly before her 89th birthday. Retana described her as a "pillar of strength, resilience, and kindness," emphasizing her commitment to helping others and making La Habra a better place. In stark contrast to this tribute, Concepcion Garcia, a resident living near a dangerous intersection, brought attention to urgent safety issues following the tragic death of a local teenager, Ethan Carlos. Garcia recounted the traumatic experience of witnessing the aftermath of the accident and highlighted the hazardous conditions on Hacienda Road, which has seen numerous accidents over the years. She called for a safety assessment of the corridor, advocating for the installation of speed bumps, traffic lights, and improved lighting to protect pedestrians and drivers alike. Garcia's petition, supported by around 60 signatures from concerned residents, underscores the community's demand for immediate action to enhance safety in the area.
