Hocking County Recorder outlines $130K project for electronic record compliance by 2026

Hocking County is set to enhance its electronic recording capabilities following a significant discussion during the Commissioners Meeting on January 23, 2025. The meeting highlighted the urgent need for compliance with House Bill 94, which mandates counties in Ohio to provide electronic access to specific records by June 30, 2026.

Teresa Salazar, the county recorder, presented a revised quote for the project, which has escalated from approximately $97,837 to $130,018 due to delays. Salazar emphasized the importance of moving quickly to secure funding, as the state treasurer has allocated $6 million for this initiative on a first-come, first-served basis. She outlined a strategic plan to manage the costs, proposing an initial payment of $32,505 to kickstart the project, with hopes of receiving reimbursements from the state.

The commissioners expressed their support for Salazar's approach, recognizing the necessity of the project and the potential financial relief it could provide to the county. They approved an additional appropriation of $33,000 from the general fund to facilitate the initial payment, ensuring that the county can meet the legislative requirements without incurring the full cost upfront.

In addition to the funding discussions, the commissioners granted permission for the contracted workers to access the courthouse for the project, pending approval from the sheriff's office. This step is crucial for maintaining security while allowing the necessary work to proceed.
