Sheridan High School We the People team heads to national competition in Washington DC

The Sheridan County School District #2 Board of Trustees meeting on January 23, 2025, highlighted the achievements of the Sheridan High School "We the People" team, which recently excelled in state competitions. Mike Thomas, the AP Government and Politics teacher, expressed gratitude to the board for their support and introduced a group of 23 students who will represent Wyoming at the national competition in Washington, D.C., in April.

Thomas proudly announced that the team won the prestigious Bob Womack Award, recognizing them as the highest-scoring unit in the state. He noted that the team narrowly missed a perfect score by just three points, showcasing their hard work and dedication. The students introduced themselves and shared their respective units, demonstrating their involvement and commitment to the program.

Trustee Lansing commended the students for their maturity and knowledge, particularly praising their performance during a recent Socratic seminar. He emphasized that their skills surpassed those of many college students, highlighting the effectiveness of the program in fostering critical thinking and public speaking abilities.

The meeting concluded with congratulations to the students and their teachers, reinforcing the board's support for educational initiatives that promote civic engagement and academic excellence. The upcoming national competition in April is anticipated with excitement, as the team hopes to experience the cherry blossoms in full bloom during their visit.
