The Southmoreland School Board meeting on February 20, 2024, celebrated several student achievements and highlighted significant fundraising efforts.
During the meeting, the board recognized Olivia Love as the January Scottie Scholar and Isabella Johnson as the January Spirit of Southmoreland student. The meeting also noted that the 2024 snow court raised over $6,000 for St. Jude's, marking the highest amount ever collected by a snow court in Southmoreland's history. Snow King Nolan Blaze and Snow Queen Madison Brown were specifically acknowledged for their impressive fundraising efforts, contributing $2,400 and $1,700, respectively.
In addition to fundraising accomplishments, the meeting highlighted the musical achievements of Southmoreland students. Senior Christopher Headley represented the district at the PMEA District 1 Orchestra, while Nolan Blaze and Headley also participated in the PMEA District 1 Chorus. Both students successfully auditioned for the Regent Choir, with Blaze earning first chair in the tenor 2 section and Headley receiving a solo opportunity.
The meeting concluded with recognition of additional student musicians who participated in the Fay West Honors Band, showcasing the district's commitment to fostering talent in the arts. Overall, the meeting underscored the achievements of Southmoreland students both in academics and extracurricular activities, reflecting a strong sense of community and support within the school district.
