The Pinellas County Board of Adjustment and Appeals convened on February 5, 2025, to discuss several key proposals impacting local community facilities and residential properties. The meeting highlighted two significant projects: a new community recreation center in Palm Harbor and a modernization plan for an existing church.
The first major topic was the proposed modification of a previously approved Type 2 use for a 27,562 square foot community recreation center at 1550 Sixteenth Street in Palm Harbor. Staff recommended conditional approval for the project, which aims to replace the existing recreation center built in 1980. The new facility will provide enhanced recreational activities and serve as a storm shelter, addressing community needs. The Palm Harbor Parks and Recreation Department plans to demolish the old structure while retaining a newer community center built in 1999. The project will also include additional parking and retention areas to accommodate the new building. The Board unanimously approved the recommendation with a vote of 6-0.
