Public Works updates Kingsford Creek dredging and traffic signal projects at monthly meeting

The Public Works Committee of Wisconsin Rapids convened on February 6, 2025, to discuss ongoing projects and community services that directly impact residents. A key highlight from the meeting was the progress on the 1 Mile Creek dredging project, which is nearing completion. Public Works Superintendent Paul Voller reported that significant excavation work has been finished, including the removal and replacement of the upper dam to address erosion issues. The remaining tasks, primarily site restoration, are expected to be completed in the spring.

In addition to the dredging project, the committee reviewed various street maintenance activities. Voller noted that the department has been collaborating with the parks department to upgrade Helen's House into a year-round rental facility. Other maintenance efforts included cold patching on local roads and the construction of a privacy berm for the police department's training facility.

The meeting also addressed the city's ongoing commitment to safety and infrastructure. The Public Works Department has been actively replacing outdated traffic signs to meet reflectivity standards, with half of the necessary signs already installed. Furthermore, the committee discussed the completion of traffic signal projects, including the finalization of work at key intersections, which will enhance traffic flow and safety.

Another significant point of discussion was the recognition of the Public Works Department's efforts in snow and ice management. Cody Knutson, a street supervisor, was acknowledged for his work in submitting the city’s application for a state-level award from the American Public Works Association, highlighting the department's effective management practices.

As the meeting concluded, the committee emphasized the importance of these projects and initiatives in maintaining the quality of life for Wisconsin Rapids residents.
