Middleton City Council approves 15-acre annexation and rezoning near South Cemetery Road

The Middleton City Council made significant strides in urban development during its regular meeting on February 5, 2025, particularly with the approval of a key annexation and rezone application. The council unanimously voted to annex a 15-acre parcel located at 397 South Cemetery Road, transitioning it from Canyon County Agricultural to City AR Agricultural Residential zoning. This move is expected to facilitate the city’s expansion and improve service delivery in the area.

The parcel, owned by Herbert and Janice Fitzpatrick, currently houses a single-family home and is surrounded on all sides by city property. The annexation will allow the city to acquire a 9.5-acre portion of the land, which is intended for agricultural use as part of a pilot project for the city’s sewer treatment plant. The council emphasized that this development aligns with the city’s comprehensive plan for residential growth and will not adversely affect public services.

In addition to the annexation, the council addressed several other items, including the approval of the final plat for the Carlton Meadows South subdivision, which will feature 23 home lots and 4 common lots. The council also approved a revision to the final plat for Falcon Valley Phase 8, resolving a jurisdictional issue involving a small parcel of land that was mistakenly included in the city’s plans but is actually located in the county.

Public comments during the meeting highlighted concerns about ongoing projects and the transition of responsibilities between administrations, particularly regarding the Sawtooth Lake Roundabout landscaping project. The council assured that these matters would be addressed in future discussions.
