Residents demand urgent replacement of Brink Road bridge in Goshen amid safety concerns

The Montgomery County Council held a public hearing on January 31, 2025, addressing several pressing community issues, including infrastructure improvements, school security, and affordable housing initiatives.

One of the key discussions centered on the completion of the Phase 2 project, expected in August 2025, which aims to relocate the bus driveway to the upper parking lot. Council members expressed support for the installation of fencing around Meadowhall Elementary School, following security concerns that led to the theft of over a hundred Chromebooks. Additionally, there was a call for a digital marquee sign at the school's entrance to enhance communication and safety.

The meeting also highlighted the need for improved housing conditions in the Lincoln Park community. Council members urged collaboration with the Housing Opportunities Commission to address blighted properties and support the restoration of Lincoln High School. They emphasized the importance of renovating over 100 vacant apartments in the town center to provide affordable housing options.

Infrastructure safety was another critical topic, particularly the urgent need to replace the aging Brink Road bridge over Great Seneca Creek. Concerns were raised about the bridge's deteriorating condition and the potential safety hazards it poses to the 12,000 vehicles that cross it daily. Community representatives argued for the project to be expedited, citing previous delays and the impact of proposed detours on local traffic.

The meeting concluded with a call for the completion of the Mid County Highway project, which has been identified as a high priority for the Up County region. Council members reiterated the importance of addressing these infrastructure needs to ensure the safety and well-being of Montgomery County residents.
