Monticello Elks Club distributes 78 ham dinners and scholarships worth $6,000

During a recent meeting of the Sullivan County Veterans Committee, members highlighted significant community support and assistance provided to local veterans. The committee expressed gratitude to the Monticello Elks Club for their generosity, which enabled the distribution of 78 ham dinners through partnerships with the American Legion, AMVETS, and VFW posts across the county.

A key focus of the meeting was the financial assistance provided to veterans in need. The committee reported helping a veteran with $1,439 for overdue rent, another Army veteran in Monticello received $1,900 for urgent home repairs, and a female veteran was assisted with an electric bill totaling $2,308. These efforts underscore the committee's commitment to ensuring that all funds raised from Sullivan County residents are directed solely to support local veterans.

Additionally, the committee announced the awarding of three scholarships, each valued at $2,000, to students from Liberty, Monticello, and Tri-Valley School Districts. This initiative reflects the committee's broader mission to support not only veterans but also the community's youth.
