Deputies rescue two children from dangerous vehicle and arrest criminals

In a dramatic turn of events, Bernalillo County deputies rescued two young children from a perilous situation during a recent traffic stop. Deputy Skrah, upon approaching a vehicle, noticed a man in the back seat wearing a bulletproof vest and a balaclava while attempting to secure his 4 and 5-year-old children. The scene escalated quickly when additional units arrived, uncovering multiple firearms, drugs, and a loaded shotgun positioned dangerously close to the children.

The driver, recently released from federal prison, was found to have an outstanding felony warrant. Authorities also discovered a short-barreled rifle and ammunition in the vehicle, raising serious concerns about the safety of the children. Reports indicated that the kids were neglected, dressed in torn clothes, and filthy, highlighting the dire circumstances they were in.

Sergeant Serna praised the deputies for their swift and effective response, stating, "I was extremely impressed but not at all surprised by the diligent work from each of the deputies." Their actions not only led to the arrest of two career criminals but also ensured the safety of the children, combating the ongoing issues of gun violence and substance abuse in the community.
