Comite Latino advocates for full funding of immigrant services during Baltimore County town hall

Baltimore County residents gathered on February 7, 2025, for a Town Hall meeting focused on the upcoming budget, where community members voiced their priorities and concerns. The meeting, which concluded promptly at 8:00 PM, allowed each participant 90 seconds to share their thoughts, with the option to submit written statements via email for those unable to speak.

Lucia Islas, president of Comite Latino, emphasized the need for full funding of services and programs for immigrants. She highlighted the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across various sectors, including government, schools, and libraries. Islas argued that investing in these programs not only supports vulnerable populations but also fosters stronger, more inclusive communities, ultimately leading to economic growth and improved social cohesion.

Caitlin Kirby, executive director of Catonsville Emergency Assistance, also addressed the assembly, expressing gratitude for the support received from the county executive's office and local council. Kirby's organization has been a vital resource for the community, serving approximately 700 individuals and 350 households annually for over 40 years.
