DeBerg told the council the current primary technician, Chris Cody, is set to retire March 1 and that Cody “has done a very good job of updating that system to current standards” over the past eight years. DeBerg said the city does not expect to maintain a full-time FTE for the role; he estimated the equivalent FTE would cost about $160,000 annually and characterized the contract approach as roughly a $100,000 annual savings compared with that FTE cost.

Council members asked how operators would be alerted when the system reports problems. DeBerg described an alarm package that calls the on-call operator and said the city maintains an on-call operator for water and sewer responses. DeBerg also said QCC has performed past upgrades and programming for the city’s sites and has familiarity with the installation.
