Gold Crown Foundation proposes new 65000 sq ft sports facility in Castle Rock

The Castle Rock Town Council has taken a significant step towards enhancing community sports and wellness facilities by approving a proposal from the Gold Crown Foundation to build a new athletic complex in the Dawson Trails development. During a recent meeting, the council discussed the foundation's plans for a 65,000 square foot indoor facility, which aims to address the growing demand for sports spaces in the region.

Gold Crown Foundation Executive Director Kevin Petty presented the proposal, highlighting the foundation's 40-year commitment to serving youth through sports, health, and educational programs. The new facility is expected to include multiple basketball and volleyball courts, as well as outdoor multipurpose fields, catering to a wide range of sports and activities. The estimated cost for the project is around $35 million, with hopes to secure funding through public and private sources.

Council members expressed strong support for the initiative, emphasizing the need for additional recreational spaces in Castle Rock. The facility is projected to attract approximately 500,000 visitors annually, which could significantly boost local businesses and generate sales tax revenue for the town. The council's approval includes a non-binding letter of intent to negotiate the lease of approximately 12 acres of town-owned land for the project.

The proposed location, adjacent to the new Crystal Valley Interchange and near a Costco, is seen as ideal for drawing families from across Douglas County and beyond. Council members noted that the facility would not only provide much-needed space for youth sports but also foster community engagement and wellness.
