Crawford County seeks opioid settlement funds for treatment programs and corrections support

On December 24, 2024, the Crawford County Board of Commissioners convened to discuss several key initiatives aimed at addressing local needs, particularly in the realm of public health and safety. One of the most significant discussions centered around the Crawford County Drug and Alcohol Executive Commission's request for additional funding from opioid settlement dollars. The commission proposed three funding allocations: $42,007 for a new case manager position to enhance community outreach, $20,000 to cover medical costs for uninsured clients undergoing medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and $38,066.78 for a full-time treatment counselor at the county correctional facility. These initiatives aim to bolster support for individuals struggling with opioid use disorder, reflecting a proactive approach to combatting the ongoing opioid crisis in the region.

The Airport Authority sought the appointment of Jamie to a four-year board position, replacing Chris Junker, who had served for approximately 14 years. The Solid Waste Authority received approval for various initiatives, including the reappointment of Mitra Reese and the designation of Brenda Schmidt as the county's recycling coordinator for 2025.
