Pacific Project Heroes proposes new veteran honor banners for downtown

The Oakdale City Council meeting on February 3, 2025, featured a significant proposal aimed at honoring local veterans and active military members. JR McCarty from Pacific Project Heroes presented a request to continue the display of banners in downtown Oakdale, similar to those hung the previous year.

McCarty emphasized the importance of the initiative, highlighting its role in supporting those who serve in the armed forces. The proposed banners will feature the names, ranks, and service years of veterans and active military personnel, with a new design incorporating red, white, and blue colors. Notably, this year’s initiative aims to include female military veterans and current members, expanding the recognition of all service members.

The council discussed maintaining the current hardware for the banners to prevent damage, which has been a costly issue in the past. McCarty assured the council that there would be no financial burden on the city, as Pacific Project Heroes will cover all expenses related to the banner installation.

This initiative reflects the city’s commitment to honoring its military community while fostering a sense of pride and recognition in the downtown area. The council's decision on the proposal will be crucial in determining the continuation of this meaningful tribute.
