Ashland plans $50M for new apartments and welcomes Amazon's distribution center

The City Council of Ashland, Ohio, unveiled ambitious plans for housing and economic development during the 2025 State of the City Address on February 10. Mayor's remarks highlighted a significant investment of nearly $50 million aimed at constructing 150 to 200 market-rate apartments in the Pump House District, following the recent demolition of an old thrift store to pave the way for this project.

In addition to residential developments, the council is preparing for a transformative business project at the National Latex Company site. The removal of outdated structures is set to make way for a new facility that will not only manufacture products but also incorporate entertainment options, with hopes for a 2025 launch.

The industrial park is also buzzing with activity, as Amazon plans to build an 84,000 square foot distribution center, promising around 100 jobs with an average wage of $26 per hour. Construction is already underway, with site preparations visibly progressing.

Further housing developments are on the horizon, including upscale condominiums on Smith and Behney Roads, with construction expected to begin soon. Plans for additional housing units, including single-family homes and townhouses, are also in motion across various locations in the city.

Mayor's reflections on the city's growth emphasized a shift from actively seeking developers to now being approached by them regularly, signaling a robust interest in Ashland as a prime location for new projects. As 2025 unfolds, residents can anticipate significant changes that promise to enhance the community's living and economic landscape.
