Project Elevation enhances health literacy in Albany Georgia through community partnership

The State of Georgia's government meeting on February 10, 2025, focused on recognizing the impactful Project Elevation in Albany, Georgia. This initiative, a collaboration between Phoebe Moorehouse College and the local community, aims to connect residents with healthcare and social services, thereby reducing barriers to health and well-being.

Project Elevation has successfully improved health literacy among participants, empowering them to make informed healthcare decisions. The program has trained and enlisted 100 community healthcare workers, referred to as champions, who operate through 25 local churches across Southwest Georgia. Since its inception in 2022, Project Elevation has screened over 945 men for prostate cancer, demonstrating its significant role in enhancing health outcomes and saving lives within the community.

The project was also recognized at the 2023 Georgia Cancer Summit for its contributions to health equity. During the meeting, individuals associated with Project Elevation were acknowledged for their efforts, including Scott Stine, the senior vice president of research at the Morehouse School of Medicine, and B.B. Putney, CEO of the B.B. Putney Health System, both of whom are committed to improving the medical landscape in Southwest Georgia.
