Santa Clara honors 60 students for STEM achievements at annual science fair ceremony

In the heart of Santa Clara's city hall, a vibrant celebration unfolded as the community came together to honor the achievements of its young innovators. On January 28, 2025, the Joint Council & Authorities Concurrent & Stadium Authority Meeting took a moment to recognize 60 outstanding students from the Santa Clara Valley who excelled in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The evening's special order of business highlighted the Santa Clara Valley Science and Engineering Fair Association, which plays a pivotal role in fostering innovation among middle and high school students across public, private, and charter schools. Each year, the association hosts the Synopsys Science and Technology Championship, showcasing the remarkable projects crafted by these budding scientists and engineers.

Retired IBM engineer and former San Jose City Council member, Forrest Williams, took center stage to commend the students for their hard work and dedication. "They are our future," he emphasized, urging the community to support and encourage these young minds. Williams spoke passionately about the importance of engineering and the potential of artificial intelligence, framing it as a tool for understanding and improving our lives rather than a threat.
