Zoning Administrator approves new restaurant alcohol service in Sunnyvale

Sunnyvale's Zoning Administrator, George Schroeder, announced the approval of a special development permit for a new restaurant at 240 South Tafe Street during the teleconference meeting held on February 12, 2025. The permit allows for on-site alcoholic beverage service, including consumption in an outdoor covered patio area.

The meeting began with Schroeder emphasizing the city’s commitment to diversity and respect, denouncing hate speech and disruptive behavior. Following procedural guidelines, the project planner, Wendy Leno, confirmed there was no staff report for the day, allowing the applicant, Sunny Tam of Studio COD Architects, to present.

Tam expressed gratitude for the staff's assistance and highlighted the restaurant owner's excitement about joining the Sunnyvale community. Despite an invitation for public comments, no members of the public participated in the discussion.

After reviewing the project details and confirming compliance with necessary findings, Schroeder approved the permit with recommended conditions. The decision can be appealed to the planning commission within 15 days. This approval marks a significant step in enhancing the local dining scene and supporting new business development in Sunnyvale.
