Saint Bernard Parish launches Keep Saint Bernard Beautiful initiative to combat litter

The St. Bernard Parish School Board convened its General Committee meeting on February 11, 2025, focusing on committee assignments, member training recognition, and community beautification initiatives.

The meeting began with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a roll call confirming the attendance of board members. A significant agenda item was the announcement of the 2025 committee assignments, which included various roles such as co-chairpersons for the executive committee and members for finance, insurance, building and grounds, and education committees.

The board also recognized members for their training achievements in 2024, with several members exceeding the required hours of training mandated by the Louisiana School Boards Association. Notably, Millie Harris and Diana Dysart were acknowledged as certified board members for completing over 20 hours of training.

A key presentation was made by Dennis Bradley from the Keep Saint Bernard Beautiful initiative. He outlined the organization’s goals to combat litter and promote environmental stewardship within the parish. Bradley emphasized the importance of community involvement, particularly engaging students in cleanup efforts and educational programs about litter prevention and beautification. He highlighted ongoing projects, including tree planting initiatives and partnerships with local organizations for upcoming events like Love the Boot Week, aimed at enhancing the parish's aesthetics.

The meeting concluded with an invitation for board members to ask questions, with a focus on collaboration between the school board and community efforts to improve the local environment. The discussions underscored the board's commitment to fostering a cleaner and more beautiful St. Bernard Parish, while also ensuring that its members remain well-trained and engaged in their responsibilities.
