Elmore Heights School District partners with Alamo Heights Police for campus safety

Elmore Heights Independent School District is taking significant strides to enhance school safety by implementing a new initiative that places a School Resource Officer (SRO) on each campus. This move follows legislation passed in 2023, mandating the presence of SROs in schools to ensure a secure environment for students and staff.

During a recent meeting, Chief Pruitt of the Alamo Heights Police Department discussed the rigorous selection process that led to the hiring of five highly qualified SROs. These officers are not only trained to patrol the streets like their fellow officers but also receive additional training tailored to their roles within the school environment. Chief Pruitt emphasized that the primary focus of the SROs is to protect students and maintain a safe atmosphere, rather than managing minor disciplinary issues.
