Lexington High School Wildcats win state championship under coach Brian Hooks

The South Carolina House of Representatives celebrated the achievements of the Lexington High School baseball team during their session on February 13, 2025. The Wildcats were honored for winning the South Carolina High School League Class 5A State Championship, finishing the season with an impressive 27-7 record and an undefeated playoff run.

Coach Brian Hooks, who reached his 500th career win this season, was recognized for his leadership and was named the 2024 South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association's Baseball Coach of the Year. The team’s success was highlighted by their victory over Ashley Ridge in a best-of-three series, culminating in a 3-1 win in the second game.

In addition to the championship title, two players, Burton Jackson and Jason Sinek, were selected for the prestigious North-South All-Star Game, while teammate Brandon Cromer committed to play for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. The assembly also acknowledged the contributions of the athletic director, Dustin Curtis, and Principal Jennifer McNair for their roles in supporting the team.

The Wildcats' achievements will be commemorated with banners at Lexington High School, ensuring that their hard work and dedication are celebrated for years to come. The assembly expressed hope for continued success in the upcoming seasons, reinforcing the importance of community support in fostering athletic excellence.

Additionally, the session recognized Dr. Mark Jones and Dr. Pulos as the "Doctors of the Day," thanking them for their service and presence at the State House. This acknowledgment underscores the assembly's commitment to honoring local professionals who contribute to the community.
