Khan of the Spring Hill Police Department presented lifesaving awards to Officers Jeremy Johnson and Madison McGill on Feb. 13 after the pair helped revive a 41-year-old woman on Feb. 1.

Khan read the department's award citation to the council and public, saying the woman had no pulse and was not breathing when officers arrived. Khan described Officer Johnson retrieving an automated external defibrillator, applying pads and delivering two shocks, while Officer McGill performed extended CPR and assisted with rescue breaths. Khan said the subject began breathing and speaking after roughly 15 minutes and later was transported to a hospital where she was expected to make a full recovery with no brain damage.

The citation stated, “Without the dedication and quick thinking and diligent critical life saving maneuvers of Officers Johnson and McGill, this level of recovery would likely not have been possible.” Khan formally awarded each officer the department's lifesaving award.

After the presentation, Khan delivered the police department's year-end report to the council. He said the department had 17 sworn positions in 2024, conducted 1,421 hours of training (an average of 89 hours per officer), and fielded new equipment including Taser X2 devices, rifle suppressors and optics and emergency operations center radios. Khan said the department built a Power BI analytics system to track statistics in near real time.

Khan reported use-of-force and accountability figures for 2024: 16 uses of force, eight complaints filed (two sustained, six unfounded) and 10 internal affairs investigations. He said serious person crimes and drug arrests were up slightly, robberies remained at zero and the department processed roughly the same number of reports as recent years. Traffic enforcement included 3,425 traffic stops, 30 DUI arrests and 101 total crashes (20 injury). Canine deployments totaled 27, primarily for narcotics-related work.

Khan outlined department goals for 2025, including continuing work toward state accreditation (target completion 2026), uniform updates and pursuing “safe vehicle stopping technology.” He also said the department plans to certify two of the city's three apartment complexes in the Crime Free Multi-Housing program.
