Tallmadge Police deploy flock cameras to locate missing 90-year-old in Akron area

The Tallmadge Police Department showcased the effectiveness of its flock camera system during a recent incident involving a missing 90-year-old man. The situation unfolded early Wednesday morning when the man's son received a concerning message from him at 1:30 AM, stating he was stranded south of Akron with a flat tire. Given the hour and the man's age, his absence raised alarms.

After the son reported his father missing, the Tallmadge Police initiated an investigation, while Akron's Police Department assisted by pinging the man's cell phone. By 8:30 AM, they identified his last known location on I-77 south of Brecksville. Thanks to the timely use of flock cameras, which monitor vehicle movements, officers located the man at 9:38 AM at a local circle. Within minutes, they were able to pull him over and ensure his safety.

Interestingly, it turned out that the man was not truly missing; he had been dealing with his flat tire and waiting for a tow truck throughout the night. This incident highlights the dual role of flock cameras in not only aiding in the capture of criminals but also in ensuring the safety of citizens in distress. The police department emphasized the importance of this technology in enhancing public safety and responding effectively to emergencies.
