Mission Hills students urge board to protect undocumented and vulnerable populations

The San Marcos Unified School District Governing Board held a regular meeting on February 13, 2025, where community members voiced their concerns regarding the protection of vulnerable student populations, particularly undocumented students and LGBTQ+ individuals.

The meeting began with public comments, highlighting the urgent need for empathy and support for undocumented students. Sabrina Martin, a senior at Mission Hills High School, passionately urged the board to protect these students, emphasizing that fear of deportation stifles their growth and access to basic necessities. She shared her personal connection as the child of an immigrant, advocating for equal opportunities for all students.

Shoshana Aguilar, another community member, expressed her support for resolutions aimed at safeguarding vulnerable populations, reinforcing the need for advocacy within the district.

Aurelio Martin, a parent and teacher, contributed to the discussion by addressing misinformation surrounding immigration issues.
