The Council Bluffs Community School District is making waves with the transformation of the former Crescent Elementary School into the Innovation and Sports Center, a facility designed to enhance student engagement and athletic development. This initiative, which aligns with the district's goal to support and connect students, aims to provide a dedicated space for extracurricular activities that can lead to improved academic performance and attendance.
During the Board of Education meeting on February 11, 2025, district leaders showcased the center's features, including a state-of-the-art baseball and softball training facility, complete with indoor turf and multiple batting and pitching lanes. The facility has already garnered positive feedback from local youth groups and community leaders, highlighting its potential to foster athletic skills among students.

Subscribe for Free Tyler Britsky, head baseball coach at Abraham Lincoln High School, emphasized the center's role in developing youth programs, stating, "This is a really, really positive step forward." He noted that the facility will not only provide a space for high school athletes but also serve as a training ground for younger players, ultimately increasing participation in baseball and softball.
In addition to sports, the center is also home to a robotics program that has expanded significantly since its inception. Christy Arthur, a leader in the district's robotics initiatives, reported that the new space has allowed for greater collaboration among students and improved skill development. "We saw a quadruple in their skill score," she said, reflecting on the positive impact of the facility on students' learning experiences.
Looking ahead, the district plans to open a golf simulator room by March 1, which will further enhance the center's offerings. Additionally, there are discussions about establishing an eSports room and a broadcast media room, expanding opportunities for students to engage in various activities.
