Arlington Public Schools is set to enhance its educational offerings and support services following key staffing decisions made during the School Committee meeting on February 13, 2025. The committee approved a series of staffing additions aimed at addressing the growing needs of students across various grade levels while ensuring that every school has a fully licensed librarian.
Among the most significant proposals is the addition of 11 full-time equivalent (FTE) positions at Arlington High School, which includes six new teachers across different content areas, a new dean to manage the increasing student population, and additional support for special education services. Additionally, a new special education coordinator will be appointed to ensure effective oversight and support for students with individualized education plans (IEPs).
Elementary schools will also see improvements, with plans to convert part-time paraprofessional roles into full-time positions at Menotomy Preschool and the addition of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to support students with special needs. The district aims to ensure that all schools have access to essential resources, including a full-time librarian at each institution.
Operationally, the budget will reflect a significant increase in spending to meet the demands of new bargaining agreements and to maintain a balanced allocation of resources. The committee emphasized the importance of prioritizing student-facing staffing while also recognizing the need for administrative support to effectively manage the growing student population.
