43
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that upon adoption of this resolution, the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Arkansas 4-H program.
The Arkansas House of Representatives has introduced House Resolution 1047, a measure aimed at celebrating the Arkansas 4-H program and its significant contributions to youth development in the state. Proposed by Representatives C. Cooper, Vaught, and Beaty Jr., the resolution recognizes the program's long-standing history and its positive impact on over 144,000 young people involved in school enrichment and community activities.
The resolution highlights the origins of the 4-H program, which began in 1908 with a small group of boys in White County, and emphasizes its mission to cultivate productive citizens through essential life skills and leadership training. As the program has evolved, it has maintained its core values, represented by the four "Hs": head, heart, hands, and health.
The proclamation of March 4, 2025, as 4-H Day at the State Capitol aims to raise awareness of the program's benefits and encourage community support for youth initiatives. This recognition comes at a time when youth development programs are increasingly vital for fostering leadership and civic engagement among young people.
While the resolution is largely celebratory, it also underscores the broader implications of supporting youth programs in Arkansas. Experts suggest that initiatives like 4-H not only contribute to individual growth but also enhance community resilience and economic development by preparing future leaders.
As the resolution moves forward, it is expected to garner support from various stakeholders, including educators, community leaders, and families, all of whom recognize the importance of investing in the next generation. The anticipated celebration at the State Capitol will serve as a reminder of the enduring legacy of the Arkansas 4-H program and its role in shaping the future of the state.
