Benton County officials have approved a new fee schedule for park facilities and campgrounds during the December 3, 2024, Board of Commissioners meeting, with the aim of maintaining affordability while addressing rising operational costs.

The most significant change is a proposed increase in rental fees at the Bazell Memorial Forest Education Center, which will see a $100 hike for weekend rentals. This adjustment is part of a broader strategy to boost weekday bookings and ensure the facility remains financially viable. The center has been performing well, allowing for upgrades to its heating systems funded by rental income.

In addition to the education center, park shelter fees will rise slightly from $75 to $78 on weekdays and from $130 to $132 on weekends and holidays. This increase is primarily to offset rising water and electricity costs, while still keeping the facilities accessible to the community.

The Salmon Berry Campground, which has experienced record attendance, will also see fee adjustments. Tent site rentals will increase by $10, while RV site fees will rise by $7. These changes are intended to align with regional pricing and ensure the campground can cover its operational expenses.

The commissioners discussed the challenges of managing the Crystal Lake Cemetery, noting that while there are no fee changes, marketing efforts are needed to attract interest in the facility. The cemetery currently averages 12 interments per year and is fully booked in its Pioneer section.
