Residents voice safety concerns over Rad Range shooting incidents in Alamance County

Concerns over gun safety and property protection dominated the Alamance County Commissioners Meeting on December 16, 2024, as residents voiced their frustrations regarding the Rad Range shooting facility. Rick Karkassee, owner of Rad Industries, defended his business, stating that a specific 50 caliber firearm could not have been responsible for recent incidents due to documented acquisition records. However, the concerns of residents like Steven Barker and Joseph Shuford highlighted a growing unease about safety in the area. Barker described his property being shot at by unknown individuals, leading to damage and a feeling of insecurity. Shuford, representing clients whose property borders the Rad Range, detailed how bullets have struck their land, creating a hazardous environment for their family.

Mark Terry, another concerned resident, called for a thorough investigation into the shooting range's operations, urging the commissioners to take action to protect the community. He pointed out that the range's design and proximity to residential areas pose significant risks, stating, “You are the only ones that can do something.”
