Sunnyvale launches free Pierry Park Rides service ahead of March 4 official debut

In the heart of Sunnyvale, city officials gathered on February 20, 2025, to discuss vital updates regarding bicycle and pedestrian initiatives that promise to reshape local transportation. One of the most exciting developments is the soft launch of the Pierry Park Rides program, set to officially launch on March 4. This innovative service will operate Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 7 PM, offering free rides to residents. Users can request rides through the Peoria Park Rides app or by calling a designated number, making it easier for community members to navigate the city without the need for a car.

The meeting also addressed various study issues and budget proposals that emerged from a recent council meeting. Notably, the Fair Oaks Avenue signalization project was ranked for consideration, while proposals for the complete streets redesign and the closure of Sunnyvale Avenue to vehicle traffic were deferred. Additionally, the budget proposal for maintaining protected bicycle lanes was dropped, raising questions about the city’s commitment to cycling infrastructure.

Community engagement remains a priority, with several upcoming meetings scheduled to discuss bike lane studies. The Hollenbeck Bike Lane study community meeting is set for March 4, and the Matilda Bike Lane study will hold its meeting on March 11.
