Nibley Elementary celebrates resilience and growth under Principal King's leadership

During the recent School Board meeting held on February 20, 2025, Principal King of Nibali Elementary School shared an inspiring update on the school’s progress and community involvement. Established in 1999, Nibali is a neighborhood school that prides itself on fostering a welcoming environment, with a dedicated staff that includes two employees who have been there since its inception.

Principal King highlighted the school’s mission to create an engaged and inclusive learning community, emphasizing core values such as kindness, respect, and accountability. With a diverse student body of 516, including 33% economically disadvantaged and 20% with disabilities, the school has made significant strides in academic achievement, particularly in language arts and math, showing growth rates of 7.5% and 4.5% respectively over the past year.

Attendance, a challenge post-COVID, has also improved dramatically, rising from 70% in 2021 to 90% last year. To encourage regular attendance, the school has implemented fun incentives, such as popcorn parties and recognition for students with perfect attendance.

The meeting also showcased the school’s commitment to social and emotional learning through initiatives like the Kindness Crew, which organizes community service projects, and student leadership opportunities that empower students to take active roles in their school environment.

Community support plays a vital role in Nibali’s success, with local partnerships providing essential resources, including crossing guards to ensure student safety. The school’s collaborative spirit is further reflected in the efforts of the School Community Council, which is actively working to enhance playground facilities.

As Nibali Elementary continues to navigate challenges and celebrate achievements, Principal King’s report underscores the importance of community involvement and dedicated educators in shaping a positive educational experience for all students.
