Clayton County Board honors government communicators and celebrates Eggs Up Grill's anniversary

The Clayton County Board of Commissioners held its regular business meeting on February 18, 2025, addressing several key agenda items, including proclamations and public comments.

The meeting commenced with Chairwoman Dr. Alika Anderson Henry presenting a proclamation in celebration of Government Communication Day, which is recognized on February 21, 2025. This proclamation highlighted the vital role of government communicators in informing and engaging the community. The Chairwoman emphasized the importance of effective communication in building trust and encouraging civic participation. She urged residents to engage with county communications through newsletters, social media, and community events.

Following this, Vice Chairwoman Elena Reeves recognized Antoine G. Aiken and Jeremy C. Aiken, owners of Eggs Up Grill, for their two-year anniversary in business. The Aikens were commended for their commitment to the community, creating jobs for 30 residents, and their philanthropic efforts through the Aiken Foundation, which provides scholarships for student entrepreneurs in Clayton County Schools.

The meeting then transitioned to public comments, allowing citizens to voice their concerns and suggestions. Several residents addressed issues ranging from property tax assessments to community safety and infrastructure needs. Notably, Mia Ballinger spoke passionately about the tragic death of her son, Eric Holmes, and called for accountability and preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future. Other speakers raised concerns about rising property taxes, the condition of local schools, and the need for improved public services, including sidewalks and street lighting.
