Logan announces underpass construction impacting Main Street traffic this summer

The Cache County Council of Governments (CCCOG) convened on January 27, 2025, to address key community developments, including the approval of the meeting agenda and minutes from the previous session. The council unanimously approved both items, setting a collaborative tone for the meeting.

A significant topic of discussion was the upcoming Main Street Underpass project, presented by Mayor Daines. This project, while not funded by the COG, is expected to have a substantial impact on local traffic. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is partnering with Logan City to construct a pedestrian underpass at the Logan River, which will affect Main Street traffic patterns significantly.

Mayor Daines outlined the construction schedule, indicating that the contractor could begin work as early as May, with a completion deadline set for October. During the day, two lanes of traffic will be maintained, but nighttime closures may occur for up to 60 days. Utility relocation work is currently underway and is expected to be completed by February.

The council emphasized the importance of community patience during the construction period, as detours will be necessary. The official detour will be Tenth West, but increased traffic on First East and First West is anticipated. A public involvement team has been hired to ensure residents are kept informed throughout the project.
