Fire Station Project in 12 South nears completion with community space and museum exhibits

During a recent meeting of the Wasatch County Fire Protection Special Service District, officials provided an update on the construction of a new fire station, highlighting its design and functionality. The meeting, held on November 12, 2024, focused on the progress of the facility, which is expected to be completed by April 2025.

The new fire station will feature several key areas, including three double-deep apparatus bays designed for fire trucks and equipment. The layout includes a community room with large windows, which will serve as a space for public events and classes. This room can be divided to accommodate multiple activities simultaneously, enhancing community engagement.

A significant aspect of the design is the inclusion of dorm rooms for fire crews, which will provide essential living space for staff. Each dorm room will be equipped with lockers, a workspace, and sleeping accommodations. Additionally, the administrative area will house offices for the chief and other staff, along with a reception area and meeting rooms.

The facility will also feature a generator capable of powering the entire building during outages, ensuring uninterrupted operations. This generator is designed with an automatic start and cutoff system, enhancing the station's reliability in emergencies.

Moreover, the fire station will include a dedicated space for memorabilia and a museum showcasing a 1932 fire truck, which will serve as a historical centerpiece for the community. This initiative reflects the district's commitment to preserving local history while providing modern fire protection services.

Officials expressed enthusiasm about the project and invited community members to tour the facility as construction progresses. The new fire station is poised to enhance emergency response capabilities and foster community involvement, marking a significant investment in public safety for Wasatch County.
