The Plainview Independent School District (PISD) celebrated its student-athletes during the Regular Board Meeting on December 19, 2024, recognizing outstanding achievements in both academics and athletics. The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the Academic All-State teams for volleyball and football, honoring seniors who maintained a GPA of 92 or higher while excelling in their sports.

Among the football honorees, Maddox Ellis, a senior and team captain, stood out for breaking the school record for receiving yards with an impressive 2,004 yards, surpassing the previous record of 927. He also tied the school record for receiving touchdowns with eight. Junior Seth Mayberry, another key player, was recognized for leading the district in passing yards and setting a new school record for career passing yards at 6,536.

The meeting also acknowledged several other athletes, including Elijah Solis, Brock Nels, and various honorable mentions across different positions. Notably, some athletes were unable to attend due to soccer commitments, highlighting the busy schedules of student-athletes.

In addition to the awards, the meeting introduced Wyatt Martinez as the new head varsity football coach. Coach Martinez expressed gratitude to the Board of Trustees and shared his vision for the team's future, signaling a new chapter for the football program.
