Whitestown announces Gateway Park Phase 2 and bike share program launch

The Whitestown Parks and Recreation meeting on February 26, 2025, highlighted significant developments for the community, including the upcoming Gateway Park Phase 2 and the introduction of a bike share program.

Dominic Cornett, assistant town manager and parks director, detailed the plans for Gateway Park Phase 2, which is funded by a Land Water Conservation Fund grant received in 2024. The project will feature the town's first public dog park, which will include separate areas for large and small dogs, a performance shelter, and restrooms. The dog park will occupy approximately 1.2 acres, with potential for future expansion as the town grows. Additionally, the performance shelter will be available for rental, allowing community groups to host events.

In a major announcement, Cornett revealed that Whitestown will launch its first bike share program in 2025. This initiative will include two stations—one at Main Street Park and another at the trailhead off Main Street. The program aims to promote exercise and provide transportation options for residents, especially with the recent connection of the Big 4 Trail to Zionsville. The bike share will operate on a membership basis through Tandem, with a focus on keeping costs low for the community.

These developments are expected to enhance community engagement and promote an active lifestyle among residents. The town council expressed gratitude for the efforts of Cornett and his team in bringing these projects to fruition.
