Marlboro Township Public Schools is set to enhance support for students with disabilities following a recent presentation by the Special Children's Organization for Parents and Educators (SCOPE) during a board meeting on February 25, 2025. The organization, which serves as the district's special education PTO, outlined its mission to foster inclusion and understanding among students with disabilities from preschool through eighth grade.
During the meeting, SCOPE representatives highlighted their successful grant program, which has awarded over $20,000 to special education staff since the 2021-2022 school year. These grants fund essential resources that are not covered by the traditional school budget, allowing educators to better meet the unique needs of neurodivergent students. Notable past projects include sensory equipment, adaptive tools for occupational therapy, and community-building events like ice cream days for students.

These include specialized swings for autism classrooms, read-aloud pens for reading assistance, and sensory hall enhancements across various schools. The board is expected to vote on these grants, which are crucial for maintaining and expanding the support network for students with special needs.
The meeting also addressed the importance of community involvement in promoting SCOPE's initiatives. Board members discussed the need for greater support from all schools and PTOs to raise awareness and funds for SCOPE's activities. While some schools actively promote SCOPE events, others have been less engaged, highlighting an opportunity for improvement in community outreach.
As SCOPE continues to bridge gaps in funding and resources, the organization remains committed to its mission of inclusion and support for all students. The upcoming vote on the proposed grants will be a significant step in ensuring that Marlboro Township Public Schools can provide the necessary tools for educators to foster an inclusive learning environment.
